Nudges and peak pricing: A common pool resource energy conservation experiment

چکیده
Using a contextualised common pool resource framework, individual energy consumption choices are studied. Individuals nudged towards the socially optimal level of by use happy (sad) face if they underconsuming (overconsuming). A price is set to incentivise second group choose observed in nudge treatment order quantify via an equivalent price. Across all 10 periods, significantly lower groups compared control without nudges and prices. The leads average above Nash equilibrium. There implications for policy makers as performs well, on average, implied loss welfare, understood integrated into subjects’ decision making quicker than However, there tendency both reinforce existing behaviour those who overconsume continue overconsume.

An intergenerational common pool resource experiment
Many renewable resources are in intergenerational common pools, exploited by one generation after another. In our experiment, the stock available to each generation depends on the extent of exploitation by previous generations and on resource’s growth rate, which is either ‘‘slow’’ or ‘‘fast.’’ Subjects show altruistic restraint in exploitation, but not enough to achieve the social optimum. The...
متن کاملIntegrated Distributed Energy Resource Pricing and Control
U.S. policy is to allow owners of distributed resources to effectively and reliably provide their services at scale, and operate harmoniously on an interconnected distribution and transmission grid. Accordingly, regulation, new business models and technology advances over the past decade have led to significant growth rates in distributed energy resources including generation, responsive demand...
متن کاملPublic participation and willingness to cooperate in common-pool resource management: a field experiment with fishing communities in Brazil
The primary evidence about the factors determining successful self-governance of common-pool resources (CPR) has come from case studies. More recently, this observational evidence has been complemented by insights from economic experiments. Here we advance a third approach in which the role of local deliberation about the management of a fishery resource is investigated in a field experiment. U...
متن کاملLeadership, Coordination and Cooperation in Common-Pool Resource Management
“This person is at the heart of the system" said a Nepalese farmer about the leader of their irrigation system, "without him there would be no irrigation". There is ample empirical evidence of the importance of leadership for successful management of common-pool resources (CPRs), not least in dealing with the effects of various kinds of disturbances. However, it is hard to find a way to fit lea...
متن کاملInteractions between organizations and networks in common-pool resource governance
Research on common property and renewable resources has come to be one of the more successful research programs on social–ecological systems. Much of this research has focused on how different kinds of institutions shape the incentives of users who rely on a common-pool resource system for a variety of their needs. In the process, this body of work has greatly advanced knowledge about how organ...
